The theme for the SPIR 2023 meeting is “Illuminate.” The agenda will challenge us to provide the best care possible for children. There will be sessions dedicated to practice building, training and education, wellness, and the patient experience from start to finish. And on the final day of the meeting, we are excited to present a dedicated half-day of M&M case presentations and "What Now?" debriefing. We look forward to reading your submissions for Scientific Abstracts and M&M cases. For the first time, we are also accepting submissions for electronic Education Exhibits.
Come enjoy the best pediatric IR conference in the world at the beautiful Walt Disney World
® Resort.

SPIR 2023 Featured Sessions

SPIR Around the World This session highlights the unique aspects of practice in various parts of the world. Panelists from across the globe will answer a series of questions prepared by our two moderators. This promises to be a fun and informative look into how our colleagues experience PIR practice.

Deep Venous Thrombosis and Pulmonary Embolism From start to finish, learn the latest in thromboembolic care for children. The session will include a broad range of topics, including PERT evaluation, treatment algorithms and rationale, the latest in equipment options, post-procedural care, and long-term outcomes.

Scientific Publications This will be a 3-part session focusing on manuscript preparation, publication review and establishing/maintaining a successful journal club.

Portal Hypertension and Portosystemic Shunts With an emphasis on physiology and case examples, this session will highlight the many causes and treatment of portal venous abnormalities.

Patient Care What’s it like to be a patient in a pediatric IR practice? This session will touch on various aspects of what our patients experience, including child life involvement, referring provider perspectives, and sedation/anaesthesia considerations.

Pearls in Practice A variety of pediatric IR professionals will share comments about what they have learned over the years. Similar to mini TED talks, these quick talks will allow multiple presenters the chance to share a single “pearl” of knowledge or wisdom.

The Arc of a PIR Career One of our most important roles is ensuring the future of our specialty by recruiting and training the next generation. This session will include a current trainee as well as more experienced educators who will share their perspectives.

Practice Management Day-to-day operations of a practice will be highlighted, including team composition, workflow, billing, inventory, rounding, clinic, and physical space.

Urgent and Emergent Techniques and knowledge for patients who can’t wait. Presentations will focus on the care of infants and children with trauma, acute illnesses, and retained equipment: times when we are able to make a big impact when it matters most.

Take Care How do we take care of ourselves so that we can take care of others? This session will include strategies for success, including the benefits of executive coaching, how to recognize and treat burnout, and elements of a healthy team/practice.

PLUS:

  • Pediatric JeopIRdy! Two teams battle it out in a fun-filled game of knowledge and wits

  • Dedicated time for committee meetings on-site

  • Daily morning pre-session options: group run/walk, guided meditation
