SPIR Membership Guidelines

Active Membership

This class of membership will include individuals with a special interest and competency in pediatric interventional radiology.    Active members have the right to vote, to serve on committees, and to hold any office in the society.  Active members are required to pay annual dues.  There shall be no limit on the number of active members.  The requirements for active membership are as follows:

 

  1. The individual must be a physician, and a Diplomate of the American Board of Radiology, certified in Radiology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Quebec, or have equivalent qualification as determined by the Board of Directors.
     

  2. The candidate must have completed at least one year of formal post-graduate training in pediatric radiology, interventional radiology, or interventional neuroradiology.

 

OR

  1. If a candidate has not completed a formal post-graduate training program, but has special competency in pediatric interventional radiology, the Board of Directors may confirm this fact based on the application.
     

  2. The Board of Directors may grant exceptions to these requirements for candidates with valuable contributions to the society.

 

Requirements include submission of an application with a CV, and approval of the Board of Directors.

 

 

Associate Membership

This class of membership includes other radiologists, physicians, or allied health partners such as (but not limited to) technologists, nurses, physicians assistants, nurse practitioners, basic scientists, clinical researchers, and paramedical professionals that have special interest and competency in pediatric interventional radiology.

 

Requirements include submission of an application with a CV, a letter of recommendation from an active member, and approval of the Board of Directors.

 

 

Member-in-Training

This class of membership will include college or medical students, residents, and fellows with special interest in pediatric interventional radiology.  Requirements are as follows:

 

  1. The member-in-training must submit an application with a CV and letters of recommendation from their program director and an active member.

  2. The individual may remain a member-in-training until they complete their formal training.

Emeritus Membership

Active Members who are no longer in practice may request emeritus membership status.  The Emeritus Member is no longer required to pay annual dues but retains all of the privileges of the Active Member with the exception of the right to vote.

Sponsored Membership

This class of membership is for individuals who can fullfil all requirement for Active Membership as described in the bylaws but practice in an economically developing country that is significantly underserved by Pediatric Interventional Radiologist and who are unable to maintain annual dues payments.  Sponsored Members have the right to vote, to serve on committees, and to hold any office in the society.

 

  1. Requirements include letters detailing need for waiver of fees from the candidate and from their Department Chair or Hospital Director in addition to the required documents for Active Membership.

  2. Sponsored membership shall be limited to one year but may be renewed with submittal of letter of continuing need. If such a letter is not received, the Sponsored Member will become an Active Member
