As pediatric interventionalists we encounter a spectrum of procedural complexity in the growing child. This requires us to be innovative and creative about procedural techniques and devices, in a world focused on adult intervention. Therapies targeted to genetic defects and mutations have accelerated in recent years. It is with this perspective, that the SPIR 2022 annual meeting will highlight advances in image guided interventions in children. This meeting will have scientific sessions showcasing the latest pediatric IR research. See below for the innovative topics that will be featured.
Contrast Enhanced US in IR providing the audience with an overview of CEUS use in IR including, the development of a CEUS program, general applications in IR and future research potential.
Controversies Debate a lively session with debates on some controversial aspects of pediatric IR practice and techniques.
Precision Oncology/Vascular Anomalies targeted medical therapies, biopsy challenges for molecular profiling, optoacoustic imaging for vascular anomalies and therapeutic options such as cryoablation and Yttrium 90.
How I do it - Guidance from the Experts complex pediatric IR topics from practice elements to procedural techniques.
Innovative Imaging Techniques/Devices elastography, fusion imaging and navigation, HoloLens technology, AI and 3D printing, laser ablation and high- frequency focused US.

Matthew Lungren MD MPH
Principal, Clinical AI/ML, World Wide Public Sector Health, Amazon Web Services
Matt Lungren is Principal for Clinical AI/ML at Amazon Web Services in World Wide Public Sector Healthcare. He also holds affiliate positions with UCSF, Duke, and Stanford University. Prior to joining AWS, Dr. Lungren was an interventional radiologist and research faculty at Stanford Medical School where he co-led the Stanford Center for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine and Imaging (AIMI). His NIH and NSF funded research focused on multi-modal data fusion models for healthcare applications, new computer vision and natural language processing approaches for healthcare specific domains, opportunistic screening with machine learning for public health applications, open medical data as public good, and prospective clinical trials for clinical AI translation. His work has resulted in more than 100 scientific papers, keynote talks on AI and healthcare around the world, and he has been featured on popular news outlets like NPR, Scientific American, and Vice News. Dr. Lungren is also a top rated instructor on the Coursera platform and his course Fundamentals of Machine Learning in Healthcare, designed especially for learners with clinical non-technical backgrounds, has been completed by more than 10k students around the world.
CEUS WORKSHOP Presented by Bracco
This 1 hour session is suitable for interventional radiologists, advanced practice providers, technologists and nurses, interested in acquiring knowledge on the technical aspects of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) administration and imaging. Instruction will include hands-on in-vitro demonstrations covering the technical aspects of contrast reconstitution, injection and image optimization.
Registration will be available at the meeting. There is no fee for this workshop. CME is not available for this workshop.
